Interview with Mr. Larson
Enderby Schools
Mr. Larson attended M.V. Beattie Elementary School, then he
attended A.L. Fortune High School, from the years 1952 to 1961. Mr. Larson mentioned that
during the construction of M.V. Beattie, the building was built larger than needed. There
were around 150-200 students in M.V. Beattie School and fifteen students per class. He
remembers that school spirit was very important in school and at lunch time the students
played games in the gym. After school there were the usual basketball, volleyball, soccer
- type sports.
The most enjoyable part of his schooling was the socializing and all the new friends made.
The school didn't play a very social part in the community, except that there was a PTA
group. The teachers had to be very versatile, usually teaching several subjects. The kids
in school were friendly. The children seem to have come from a more stable family with two
parents.
The only field trip that he remembered was a trip to the Adams River Salmon run.
He didn't find any difference in the teachers between his years of schooling and now.
