Theatres in Enderby
In the past, Enderby has
had two theatres. The first of these was the Coliseum (also known as the Knights of Pythias Hall and the Opera House).
This was built in 1911 and lasted until the mid 1950's, when it was purchased and changed
to an electronics business, the present day Saena Electronics.
The Coliseum Theatre showed silent movies as well as the later
"talkies" and was also used as a playhouse for local and out - of - town theatre
companies.
The Monarch Theatre was built in 1948 and showed movies until
1962, when it was changed to the present bowling alley. The rise of television and the
cost of showing films, as well as the competition from other theaters in the North
Okanagan, however, signified the end for both theatres; they were changed to more
profitable businesses.
