K.P. Building

The K.P. Building, originally the Opera House, was financed by the Sawyer Brothers, who contracted Blanchard and English to build it in 1911. The silent movie theatre was also a community hall and was later purchased by Sam Polson. Many local plays were held in the building. Not much damage was caused when the building caught fire in 1918.

By 1920, the Opera House was renamed "Coliseum". In the late 1920's Bill Atkinson from Vernon ran the theatre. Simpson and Grey, from Armstrong, ran the projector. And later E.R. Bobb from Enderby ran the projector. The projector was 16mm and only showed silent films until the advent of "talkies" in the 1930's.

The matinee was shown at 4:15 p.m. and usually showed the feature movie and a serial. The evening shows were at 7:00 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Shows often ran for about a week. Admission was 25 cents for adults and 10 cents for children.

Sam Polson sold the hall to the Knights of Pythius who used it for social function and lodge meetings. When the Knights of Pythius were disbanded before World War II, the building sat vacant. In the 1950's it was converted and renovated by Bill Lutz into an electronic business.
