The Sparrows

The Enderby Sparrows were part of the Okanagan League which consisted of teams from Salmon Arm, Armstrong, Vernon and Lumby. Enderby won the right to represent the Okanagan League in the Intermediate Championship competition. Enderby was to play against the Intermediate Champs of the Pacific Coast Hockey League, the Bluebirds.

The style of hockey was very different between these two teams. The Bluebirds appeared extremely formal, but the kind of hockey Enderby played was not like that of the coastal team. Enderby was fast and clean; the end result was victory for the Sparrows.

From this point the Sparrows would travel to meet head-on with the Kootenay Intermediate League Champs, the Trail Tigers. The brand of hockey was superb from both teams and sportsmanship was great.

The final result of this two-game total point series was Enderby 7 and Trail 5. Enderby became the B.C. Champions and the recipient of the Coy Cup.

Evidence that Enderby was truly without equal comes with the fact that the Sparrows only suffered one loss and one draw during the 1922-23 season, and had a total of 105 goals in their favour and just 40 against.
