Ringette in Enderby

3846copy.jpg (9891 bytes)Ringette is a new and upcoming winter sport for girls of all ages. Enderby had its first team in 1989-90. The team had girls with ages ranging from six to fourteen. The coaches were Marg Hagardt and Brandi Warren. At the beginning there were girls who had never skated before, but by the end of the year the girls were winning more games than they were losing.

Ringette is the first winter sport in the Enderby area for girls, and the amount of interest was astounding. Instead of the girls coming to the arena to watch their brothers, the boys were coming to watch their sisters.

There weren't many teams around Enderby, so the girls played teams from Penticton, Winfield, Kamloops, and Kelowna. They ended the year by attending the B.C. Provincials and taking home the Sports "gal-ship" Award. Although the girls lost the four games they played, their game improved, and they rose to meet the challenge the harder teams presented. The outlook for next year is at least two teams, perhaps even three. Ringette in Enderby is a sport that will do nothing but grow!!
