Bowling in Enderby Bowling in Enderby has
been a popular pastime for a long time. The first bowling alley was built in 1912 by Mr.
E. Hallett. It was originally located on Old Vernon Road across from the sawmill. Mr. Ted
Peel remembers being a pinsetter in 1914, along with other kids his own age.
After the first bowling alley closed down, another alley was built by Mr. Samol in the
1940's. It was located on the east side of Belvedere Street between Cliff and Mill Street.
It was four lanes and the pins were hand set. It only had adult leagues. After the alley
moved, Lundman's Hardware moved into the building.
Mr. Samol then built a theater, the Monarch Theatre,
on Cliff Street. He traded it to Ed McMahon for McMahon Hardware. Mr. Vic Sibinski bought
it from Ed McMahon and changed it to another bowling alley. He sold it to Uli and Helga
Friebe, who named it Enderby Lanes.
