Enderby Post Office The Post Office has been in Enderby for
102 years. The first post office opened its doors on November 1, 1887, with Oliver Harvey
as postmaster. It was located in Harvey's General Store on lot
4 of the Belvidere Townsite, near Lambly's Warehouse.
In March, 1888 the mail was moved from Sicamous to Enderby, a distance of thirty-six
miles,by steamboat. If this proved impossible, Mr. A. Schubert took the mail by wagon for
twenty-four miles at $15 a month. Residents of Vernon, Okanagan and Spallumcheen also
wanted mail delivered by Mr. A. Schubert; for extra service he would get paid $45 a month.
In 1890, the post office moved into Harvey and Dobsen's General
Store at the northwest end of the bridge on Cliff Street, and Henry Harvey became
postmaster..
May 21, 1890, the application was made for the extension of the Money Order System to the
post office at Enderby. The money order system was needed in order to pay employees of the
S & O Railroad during construction.
Mr. Harvey continued as postmaster until 1913. Upon his death that year Mrs. E.E. Harvey
took over his post.
On November 7, 1929, the hours of operation were 8:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. six days a week.
The post office was closed on Thursdays.
Mrs. Harvey resigned her position on April 15, 1947. Pat Farmer became the new post master
on July 15 of that year.
