The 5 moves of the Post Office

0692copy.jpg (13689 bytes)The first post office in Enderby was opened on Nov. 1, 1887 about 102 years ago. The postmaster, Oliver Harvey, handled the mail in his general store on lot 4 in the Belvidere Townsite near Lambly's Warehouse.

In 1890, the post office moved with Harvey and Dobsen's General Store to the northwest end of the bridge on Cliff St. Oliver Harvey was still postmaster, followed by Henry Harvey.

After Henry Harvey died, in 1913, the post office moved out of Harvey and Dobsen's store into the Bell block, where it was next to Reeves Drug store. The postmistress was Mrs. Harvey, followed by J. Patrick Farmer.

The fourth move, in 1949, was down the street near the corner of Maud and Cliff Street, to a larger building which is presently part of Reimer's Department Store.

The fifth move was to the present location on the corner of Mill and Belvedere Streets. It was built by Denver Willis and is now owned by his sister Mrs. Steinquist. It was officially opened on July 22, 1954.
