The Postmasters

Nov. 1, 1887 to Oct. 26, 1900

Oliver and his brother Henry Harvey came up to Enderby in the late 1880's, when he established a general merchant store. Oliver applied in 1887 for a post office stamp for Enderby to be registered with the federal government as a post office. It was at this time that the name 'Enderby' became official.. Oliver Harvey moved to Ashcroft in 1900.



Henry Harvey
Dec. 1, 1900 to Sept. 22, 1913

Henry Harvey joined his brother Oliver in 1900, when he became partners in the Harvey general store.  He was a postmaster for 12 years from Dec. 1, 1900 to Sept. 22, 1913. He also worked with insurance, real estate, and business loans.



Mrs. E.E. Harvey
Nov. 1, 1913 to Sept. 16, 1946

Mrs. Elizabeth Harvey became postmistress after the death of her husband. She was postmistress for 33 years from Nov. 1, 1913 to Sept. 16, 1946.



James Patrick Farmer
Aug. 16, 1947 to 1982

On July 15, 1977 Patrick Farmer celebrated his 30th year as Enderby's postmaster. In his 30 years Mr. Farmer has seen many changes in the postal system in Canada. When he received his appointment in 1947, he was the youngest postmaster in Canada, being only 22 at the time. At the time of his appointment the post office was situated in the old Bell Block on Cliff Street. He retired in 1983.
