Percy Farmer moved to Enderby in 1915 at
the age of 21 to work as an accountant with Okanagan Sawmills. Two years after his arrival
he married Carrie Elizabeth Hassard. In 1926 he became accountant for BJ Carney Pole Co,
and later was appointed manager. Mr. Farmer became the Police Magistrate for Enderby in
1946. He had been appointed for this job by the attorney general's department. He retired
in 1969 after 23 years of service to the community.
On October 22, 1969. Mr. Farmer was officially presented with an engraved clock by Mayor Wayne Mcleod, recognizing his outstanding community services and the ideal job done by him as a magistrate. When given this he just said, "I was only doing my job." The attorney general's department didn't want to replace Judge Farmer and didn't see fit to accept any of the city's recommendations.
Percy Farmer wasn't only outstanding as a magistrate, he was also successful in his 15 years on city council and as a member of the hospital board. Mr. Farmer was one of those people who cared, and for this people loved him. He died in 1975.
