2689copy.jpg (7500 bytes)Mr. Coltart was born in Douglastown, New Brunswick in 1868. He passed away on April 8, 1939.

In his younger years Richard studied law in Chatham, New Brunswick. Then, in 1889, he moved to Vancouver to work on the C.P.R.. He must have liked New Brunswick however, as he moved there again after a year or two.

In 1901, in yet another coast to coast journey, Mr. Coltart moved back to Vancouver to work in the timber business. While there in 1903, Richard married Louise Hall. In 1904 they moved to Enderby to live with his step-father, Abram Gunter.

Richard Coltart established the first Aryshire herd in the Okanagan Valley on Valecairn farm slightly west of Enderby. He was a director on the first board of the North Okanagan Creamery Association, and served as vice-president and president from 1915 to 1939. He was also active in the Farmers' Exchange, the Knights of Pythias, and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Coltart was a member of the Enderby City Council from 1917 to 1922. Twice during this period he became mayor. The first was in 1915. Where he was acting Mayor from May 3, following Mayor Samuel Polson. The second time was in 1922, when Mr. Coltart became acting Mayor from June 28, following Mayor G.H. Smedley
