Nikolus Johnson

Mayor, 1949 - 1957

Mr.Johnson was born in Duluth. Minn. in 1899, at an early age, he lost both of his parents and as a result was raised by Wm. Willson in Innisfail,Alberta. Nikolus received his scolastic education in Innisfail, but went on from there to receive practical knowledge through his own drive for success.

After serving in world war 1, he farmed, but later turned to store-keeping, first in Irma, Alberta for ten years , then in Killam for eight years. After that he and his family moved to Kelowna. In 1946 he made his final move to Enderby, where he operated an insurance and real estate business. It was in September of 1927 that Mr.Johnson married Miss May Stouffer, of Irma, Alberta; they had three sons and one daughter.

Mr.Johnson served as mayor of Enderby for seven years, from 1949 to 1957. His leadership carried Enderby forward, and he did as much as possible to keep the trend going upwards. In 1957, ill health forced Nikolus to retire from a seven-year term of accomplishments. Yet this did not stop him from his great interest in his church, the First Baptist Church of Enderby, and his pleasure in the finer things in life. On Jan. 27, 1965, at the age of 66 Mr.Nikolus S. Johnson passed away.
