Mara Post Office

0001copy.jpg (16354 bytes)In 1893 Mara had a great need for a post office. People from all over the world were living in Mara, and they wanted to send letters home. Mr. Appleby saw this need and started a post office in Mara. Mr. Appleby's time as postmaster was very short, and in 1893, Mrs. Rosoman became postmistress.

In 1909 the post office burnt down in the 'big fire'. A replacement office was opened on the east side of the river. In 1921 Mrs. Rosoman passed away, but her son took over as postmaster. He passed away in 1930, and at this time his wife took over the postal duties.

In 1953, sixty years of Rosoman family postal services ended. At this time Mr. and Mrs. Marshall took over the store and post office. The Marshalls had the post office for about twenty years.

In 1975 Mr. and Mrs. Runham took over the post office. Mrs. Runham ran the postal outlet until it was closed in 1990. Currently the post office is run out of the Mara Foodliner, on Highway 97A.
