Interview with Tom Gray
and Bertha Boswell

0270copy.jpg (9460 bytes) Tom Gray is the son of Tommy Gray, the first homesteader to Mara. Our interview took place on a Friday afternoon with Tom's sister Bertha Boswell also attending.

The interview with Mr. Gray and Mrs. Boswell was very personal and we found out some very interesting information about a long-time postmistress, Mrs. Rosoman.

Tom's father, Tommy Gray, helped work at the site where the "Last Spike" was driven connecting the coast to coast railway, the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway).

The Gray homestead was one of the more up-to date lodgings in the area as it had the first water system with a pressure pump in the valley. In 1919 a 250 gallon tank was installed by a gentleman by the name of Jim Bell. Many homes followed suit soon after by acquiring this 'new' improvement to the household.
