To Err is Human
In one play, during a winter of heavy snow, a curious mishap occurred. One actor, who had supposedly lost his memory, was to be hit on the head to bring back his memory. Just as he was hit, the snow fell off the roof with a mighty roar and shook the whole building. In another play, the leading lady had just fainted and lay in the middle of the floor. A pursuit was taking place and each actor was supposed to jump over the fallen lady. Unforunately, one actor missed and kicked the leading lady on the behind. The leading lady acquired a large, painful and slightly embarrassing bruise. On another occasion, an actor (Don Wells) was supposed to come on stage--after losing his clothes while swimming--wearing a barrel and little else. Unfortunately, the barrel used was a little undependable and to this actor's embarrassment the barrel fell apart while he stood horrified on stage. In the play "Blithe Spirit", an actress (Girty Chalmers) walked on stage, trying to stay in character, looked into the crowd, noticed her husband sitting there and asked outloud, "How did he get here?!" Despite these few "mishaps", the Grindrod Players are proud to say, "We've never had a flop." Shelly Fichter, Stephanie Abel, Adam Karras |
