Banks in Enderby

4986copy.jpg (14674 bytes)Banks play a large part in the economy of every large town or city, and Enderby is no exception. When Enderby was first recognized as a town, the Bank of Montreal was the first to take interest in Enderby's development, entering the scene in 1905.

The Bank of Hamilton, the Union Bank and the Enderby Credit Union were also added to Enderby's Banking community, entering the community at different times.

The Bank of Montreal was, and still is, the major bank for the community of Enderby. It has had the longest period of operation.

The Union Bank appeared in Enderby in 1911 and was located in the Enderby Hotel. It closed some time after the A. R. Rogers Sawmill closed in 1922.

The Bank of Hamilton's part in Enderby was short, appearing quite a while after the Bank of Montreal, and moving to Armstrong a few short years afterward.

The Enderby & District Credit Union came into Enderby long after the other three banks, and like the Bank of Montreal, still remains.
